Thinking about a holiday in central Portugal?

Welcome to our new blog. We hope you will enjoy reading about our place and consider coming here for a holiday.

We are a Dutch couple, Martine and Paul, who bought, and converted a beautiful property just below Castelo Novo in the Gardunha Mountains.

It is ideal here - a walk of about ten minutes and you will find yourself in the village where a community pool in the river brings a welcome refreshment and relaxing opportunities. During the summer season a little bar provides drinks and snacks sustaining you throughout the evening.

We offer an apartment to rent and Bed and Breakfast accommodation...but more about that later......

Castelo Novo

This is a wonderful area of Portugal to visit - most people have heard about the Algarve, but little is known about central Portugal and their lovely people. Castelo Novo is an historic village, set in the Garduhna Mountains - in the shape of an amphitheater.

The village takes its name from the 12th century castle that still stands. Our village is one of the 12 'Aldeias Historicas de Portugal' - we are on a route where you can visit them easily. If you would like to see more pictures of the village click here

In the region there are many attractions for visitors of all ages. There are walking tracks in the mountains, opportunities for scenic bike rides, good places to eat and drink, we even have a dam to swim nearby if you come in Spring or Summer.

We have behind us the mountain and in front views of Monsanto.

Our Place.....

Apartment

We have a place to offer for guests who would like to visit this region. We can offer an apartment for 4 people. There is a modest living room, bathroom and two bedrooms. One with a double bed and bunk beds.

There is a lovely terrace outside, in the shade of the cherry tree.

We include free wi-fi, bedding, towels and kitchen equipment.  At the bottom of our property there is a river.

If you have any basic requests of things that you would like in the kitchen when you arrive, let us know in advance and we will do our best to help you out. For example, milk, bread or coffee.

We open our doors 15th April - 30th September.

Bed and Breakfast

We offer bed and breakfast accommodation for 2 people. We have a camping bed for children 2 years or under. Our breakfasts typically consist of our organic orange juice, homemade jam and local bread.

We open our doors 15th April - 30th September.

Advantages of staying here.....

One of the advantages of coming to stay with us is that we are musicians.

We play many instruments and who knows, you might be lucky and be able to enjoy a music session with us when you are here.

We are animal lovers, so as long as your animals get on with our two dogs and two cats, you can bring them along. Let us know if you are thinking about bringing your animals.

We speak lots of languages
Dutch
French
English
German
Spanish
Portuguese

and finally our location - we are 5 minutes away from the N18 and the A23. We are easy to find if you are coming by car, and if you choose to arrive by train or bus, we can arrange to pick you up from FUNDAO for a small charge.

Booking

  1. Dear Paul, Martine, and various creatures! We arrived back in the UK today and... raining, good old Britain :)

Just wanted to say a quick thank you (again!) for making our short stay in Portugal an amazing one. Will definitely be back in the summer for a bit longer this time.

We loved the local area, absolutely breath taking and really looking forward to exploring the Gardunha and the Serra Estrela mountains next time.

The accommodation was tip-top, breakfast was perfect (please send some of your jam!) and Pauls coffee will be missed every morning now.

Give Sheeba a hug from me and tell the cats they owe me two tennis balls!

    Kind Regards,

    Sef, Jasmine, and Laika xxx

    ps, see you August/September 2013!

  3. We have stayed several times at Quinta do Borracheiro. Paul and Martine live in a nice house with a huge garden with many fruit trees. The good climate ensures that there is always something to nibble in terms of fruit falls. Paul and Martine make delicious jellies and jams themselves; ingredients for an unforgettable breakfast in the garden. Castelo Branco is a picturesque village with a castle which is really worth visiting, it is always a pleasure to come back here again! Good luck with your B & B. Visiting this place really a must! Best greetings Annechien and Joost

A bientôt
    Gilles, Françoise, Fabien et Lisette
